The Whole Story

Well, I've finally gotten around to posting my "war story" if you will, and since it didn't go exactly according to plan I thought I'd better do it quick before I forget!! I had told many of you that I was tentatively set up to be induced on April 3rd, and obviously that didn't fall through because I wasn't in labor for 3 days (luckily), but instead I was pushed all the way back to Sunday night the 5th, at 10 p.m. They wanted to start me off with a cytotec pill that ripens your cervix, and THEN induction if it all went well, so when Sunday night finally rolled around and we headed to triage to get checked in, we were surprised to find out that I had already dilated by myself to a 3!! The pill would thus be pointless b/c I had already done on my own what it would do, so they sent me home!! I was so bummed to be so close and yet so far AGAIN, so they told me I could call back Monday morning at 6 a.m. and see if they could squeeze me into labor and delivery anyway. I couldn't sleep all night just waiting to be able to call, and when I did they told me to come in at 9:30 a.m. for induction. They started the pitocin around 10:30 a.m., and after bumping it up every 20 min. or so for the first 5-6 hours and still nothing was happening (his head was NOT dropping), they finally decided to go ahead and break my water and see if that would get him to drop...and it did!! The pitocin finally started giving me some pretty narly contractions, his head was dropping, and we were off!! I went from a 5 to a 10 in like one hour, so once he decided it was okay to come out it went super fast. I really thought he was going to be huge because Lucy was already 7 lbs. 8 oz. and 3 weeks EARLY, so thinking of this baby at full-term I was all pumped up to push for awhile. Instead he popped out with the first push, which really surprised the doctor who wasn't quite ready to catch him yet. Indeed, I was there and it was a big push.:) I felt great after delivery even though I did tear pretty bad because he came out so fast, but all's well that ends well. We have LOVED getting to know "Baby Zachy" as Lucy calls him, and it's so nice to be home and just get used to having two kids!!

You can't really tell from this picture, but Zachary has really big blue eyes-- which is unlike Lucy who came out with her big brown eyes...so maybe we will get a blue-eyed baby after all!!

Zachary with my Mom, who just left this morning. Boo hoo!! She was SUCH a major help with both Babykins and Lucy and me-- but mostly Lucy, who is no easy toddler!! We can't thank her enough for coming...

Here's the excited big sister!! She has adjusted mostly okay to the new baby-- she gets really jealous when I'm nursing and tries to pull him off my lap, but she's only bopped him on the head once (Luce!)--which probably won't be the last time either, but she gets better every day. Awwww, siblings. We love our big sister!!

Poor Jonathan's already missed a birthday (it was the day after Zachy was born), had three crown patients last week, and now is studying for finals which are ALL next week. We always seem to time these things wrong. Oh well. If I can survive this next week with no Grandma and no husband, I can survive anything!!

Baby Zachary dressed up and ready to come home from the hospital. We love baby Zachy!!
