February Follies

How it suddenly jumped to the end of February since the last time I blogged is beyond me. Seems like just yesterday I was complaining that January would never end! It could have something to do with the fact that we spent a week at Disney World and I've been in vacation-coma ever since (more on that vacay to come later), regardless I need to play catch up...again! Our February has been full of fun-- I've always dreaded the mid-winter blues, so we've attempted to chase away the winter blahs by keeping busy.

We recently rearranged Lucy and Leah's room to include space for our old queen sized bed (it's just an air mattress for now until our new king sized one arrives and we can switch!), as well as Zach's baby crib. Poor Zach never really got a bed-- we just converted the crib into a toddler bed when he out grew it, but ever since we moved here he's preferred to sleep in Lucy's room on the floor. Now that there's a bed big enough for two, he's finally off the floor and has become Lucy's bed buddy. They are and always have been so sweet with each other-- every morning I go in to get Lucy up for school, I find them all cuddled up together.
Although I haven't regretted my decision to pull Zach out of preschool back in September, this little stinker is definitely ready to move on from just staying at home with mommy all day. It seems his favorite form of entertainment is to either follow me around and drive me nuts, or sneakily get into stuff and be naughty! A direct sign he's ready for school. And without a gym to go to anymore, we're both REALLY needing an outlet that gives us a break from each other. I auditioned at First Health (the big gym around here) and got the job, but that was 3 weeks ago and still no word on how my paperwork is "processing." Maybe they were just kidding? Thank heavens for Transformers, the Avengers, and Spiderman, for without such I'd probably never even get a shower since he and Leah like to tag-team!
February is Dental Health month, so Lucy's teacher invited Jonathan to come in and talk to all 80 kindergartners. He did a fantastic job! I brought Zach and Leah with me to watch, and he had lots of fun demonstrations and examples ready for the kids. He brought two hard-boiled eggs, one of which had been pre-soaked in fluoride, and dropped both of them in orange soda pop. When he took out the fluoridated egg it stayed white, whereas the regular egg was dyed orange. Eeeeww! The kids got a kick out of that.
Three of his assistants weasled their way into getting the morning off as well, and did a good job teaching the kids how to brush and floss their teeth. Lucy was ECSTATIC to have all of us there at school, and was so cute about showing off her dad the dentist! Jon had the rest of the morning off to bum around, so he took Zach, Leah, and I to breakfast at Cracker Barrel.
Right before we left for Disney World, my mom took the Mega Bus from Richmond, VA to come stay with us for a few days. We picked her up in Durham and got lunch at a foodie find near Duke University called "Nosh." Baby Leah and Grandma Joanie were matchers in their pink shirts!
Seems like because everything is soooo stinkin' far away we're always in the car driving somewhere or another, so Zach has learned to entertain himself with whatever he can. Sticker face with the Trader Joe stickers from the prize box! Is it the sign of a stay at home that my most cherished form of entertainment during the week is a trip to the grocery store?

Leah enjoying a (rare) nap in the car. Normally she screams bloody murder-- her record is 57 minutes when I drove to pick-up Lucy from school one day. B-L-U-E- L-I-P-S. That's how hard she was crying. The real kicker is when she finally gets pulled out of her seat she immediately starts laughing and smiling. Drama Mama!

At least she's cute! She's almost 4 months old, and everybody's favorite. She has a severe case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), and HAS to be right in the thick of the action, which isn't too hard to find with Lucy and Zach around. She is crazy strong-- she can almost pull herself up to sitting, is 95th percentile for height and 70th percentile for weight. While in Florida, Zach was quick to reassure Whitney and my dad when she cried, that she was just "talking." And people, she sure does love to talk. Cheers to February!
