A Weekend of Spring!

Jon and I had the best weekend. We realized that we'd never been to the Raleigh temple together in all 4 years we've lived here. We've always just taken separate turns going, so we decided to hire one of the ladies that works at the Kids' Center in the gym for the entire day Saturday-- and make a whole day-date of it. She came over at 11, and we headed up to Cary to do a little birthday shopping for Zach. Well, first we took a little detour to Jasmin's for some chicken shwarma, but then it was power shopping all the way! Our session started at 3, so we headed over to the temple (which is really in Apex, not Raleigh) around 2:30.
It was really nice getting to attend the temple together for a change! I tried to think back to the last time we'd done that, but couldn't remember.  Next we headed to the Streets at Southpoint over in Durham-- I wanted to show Jon where I'd gone the weekend before for my GNO. We even ended up eating at the same restaurant, ZinBurger, and Jon got the Blanco Burger with guac, pico de gallo, and pepperjack cheese. He also splurged and got the Creme Brulee milkshake which was really yummy!
I got the ZinBurger which had manchego cheese and caramelized onions. They only use fresh, grass-fed beef, and the flavor is seriously amazing! I got the Bars of Zin milkshake which had chocolate ice cream, Nutella, and crushed Kit Kats. It was the epitome of indulgence! We walked around the mall for a little while and then headed back home, making sure to get there no earlier than 9 p.m. so the kids would already be in bed. It was so nice to have a whole day with my favorite person!
The kids did great too, apparently. They got to watch movies, play outside, read books, and have a break from mom and dad. It was a nice little preview of what life will be like in a couple weeks when we leave on our Bahama-bound cruise! Woohoo!
Yesterday was GORGEOUS. Blue skies, lots of sunshine, and 70 degrees. I let my girls wear their new matching Easter dresses to church since this Easter is on Conference Sunday. I can't believe this is the first time in 8 years that I've found matching dresses for them! It was about time.
I love these little guys so much!
After church we decided to do things a little differently, and instead of coming home and making dinner right away, we changed, grabbed a snack, and headed back out into the sunshine to the Reservoir in Southern Pines.
We started with feeding the ducks--which were really a mean bunch of geese, but Leah didn't know the difference.
She kept throwing her entire piece of bread at them, so we went through the loaf pretty quickly!
Zach kept trying to ball up his pieces of bread and hit the geese on their mean little heads, which explains his mischievous little grin. As you can see, he's also the only one who was too lazy unmotivated to change out of his Sunday clothes.
Such a beautiful place to spend an afternoon!
We brought a wiffle ball and bat, so we played for a little while, and I think we all needed the break in our normal routine, plus the extra sunshine. I love that spring is finally here, and we got to spend the afternoon doing something a little different. It was a great spring weekend!
