Eight was Great, But NINE is Fine!!

This gorgeous, talented, sweet, smart, thoughtful, Harry Potter-loving, dark-eyed beauty just kissed her 8th year good-bye and rolled right on to being NINE YEARS OLD!! I can't believe I've ((almost)) had someone calling me "mommy" for a decade. What a total joy raising Lucy has been so far!
Lucy woke up bright and early Friday morning, December 4th, and received her birthday hugs from all of us, because EVERYBODY loves Lucy! Here's her table full of gifts, just tempting her to open them all before school.
She exercised great self control, and decided she'd just open the presents with clothes (so she could pick a new birthday outfit to wear to school) and save the rest for later. She picked pancakes, bacon, and hot chocolate for her birthday breakfast.
Isn't she just the cutest?!? She makes 9 years old look good. I love how she is rocking the new winter boats Grandma and Grandpa Morris gave her for her birthday last week. She is definitely our resident fashionista, and always has a piece of jewelry to match any outfit!
Operation: Birthday Surprise was so hard to execute without letting one little thing slip! We sent Lucy and Zach off to school as usual, packed her a "pretend" lunch, sent her with a birthday snack to share with the class, etc. so she wouldn't suspect a thing. Right at 12:15 p.m. before her class normally heads to lunch, Jon, Leah, and I (+ some birthday balloons) hurried to school and had the office page her and send her down for a "special surprise"-- which was the three of us, taking her to lunch and letting her play hooky for the rest of the day!
We took her on a special lunch date to the Cheesecake Factory. She was so thrilled to be out of school, and not eating cafeteria food for her birthday lunch!
We told the waitress it was her birthday, and when they brought her the slice of Oreo Extreme cheesecake she'd picked they came and sang Happy Birthday to her, too.
I don't think she was too embarrassed!
Leah was all too happy to help Lucy out with her extra cake and whipped cream. I was feeling bad for Zach, who was the only one still stuck back at school, so Jon and I ordered an extra slice to take home and share with him when he got home!
We hurried back and picked Zach up from school, then finished opening presents so Lucy could go and try out her new roller blades! She also got a Harry Potter Scene It DVD game, some new books, lots of clothes, BYU earrings and necklace, and a Nerf Rebelle gun (so she can defend herself against Zach's onslaughts).
She spent the rest of the afternoon roller blading and playing with neighbor Savannah, and then going to piano lessons at 5. Right after her lesson, we hurried to Panda Express which was her special birthday pick for dinner. She is a girl after her Grandpa Tom Tom's heart and was in orange chicken heaven!
Back at home I pulled out this little beauty especially designed for a true Harry Potter fan. I only had like an hour that afternoon to make it, so it's a bit rough around the edges, but Lucy loved it. Cheers, Harry!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCY 2015!! (Complete with Faux the Phoenix which Grandma and Grandpa Cardon sent her for her birthday.)
I love this picture! EVERYBODY loooooves  Lucy!! Probably because she's so nice. Jeremy and Sophie were able to come over for cake and ice cream. Blowing out her N-I-N-E candles.
Saturday we surprised the Birthday Girl (and the rest of the kiddos) by telling them they were all going to get to go see Disney on Ice that afternoon in downtown Denver at the Pepsi Center. None of us had ever been, and Lucy loves ice skating, so she was pretty thrilled.
Long story short, we'd bought tickets for just the girls to go originally, but ended up all getting to go because some local orthodontists had given Jon and Jeremy great box seat tickets to this same show-- enough for both families to go! They were awesome seats!

The theme of the show was Frozen, but they incorporated all of the Disney characters at the beginning. Kristof was by far the best skater and could do back flips.
Lucy loved it, and Leah was totally enthralled, but I don't know that it was too much of Zach's thing. It took some $14 concession stand popcorn to keep him happy, but it was a great, family-friendly way to spend the afternoon with our Birthday Girl! We are SO thankful for Lucy in our family. She absolutely changed my life 9 years ago when she made me a mommy. Despite all the huge changes and cross-country moves she's experienced in her short little life, this girl continues to bloom where she's been planted and is never without a friend. She is truly such a special, talented, beloved daughter of our Heavenly Father and we are honored we get to call her ours!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCY!!
My sweet one-year old, Lucy in 2007. Those big dark eyes are still always the first thing everybody notices when they meet the Luce!
