Whitney, Weather, and the Weekend!

We had a great week! It was Lucy's last week of school and she was soooo excited to be done and officially advance to first grade. They got to do fun things all week, like watch movies, have parties, celebrate "Circus Day," play games, have mom, Auntie Whitney, Zach, and Leah come to lunch one day, and get extra recess. Unfortunately, tropical storm Andrea rolled in around Tuesday night and it POURED and POURED from then on to the end of the week. I've never seen so much rain in my life!!

Isn't she cute?? This is her on the morning of her last day. Coincidentally she picked out the same outfit she wore on her first day, 9 months ago. I thought they might end up cancelling school because there were flash flood warnings, but she got to say goodbye to her teachers and classmates after all.

My sister Whitney flew in on Tuesday evening, so we got to have fun with her all week too. We got lunch at Chick fil A, went shopping at Kohl's, she got to see Zach do swim lessons and Lucy do swim team, I got a haircut, and she got to come do Body Pump with me. She is SO much fun to have around!
Despite all the rain on Thursday and Friday, our plan was still to head to the beach on Saturday. We were literally checking the weather hour by hour for Myrtle Beach, and although there was still a chance of rain in the forecast, we risked it and the weather ended up being perfect! So nice to see some sunshine after 4 days of straight rain!
Leah napped really well in the car so she was energized and ready to take on the beach. She LOVED playing in the water and eating sand. And she sure ate a LOT of sand. Look at that face!!
Zach had so much fun playing in the sand and water, and has gotten so much braver in the water-- which is a good but also a kind of scary thing! He loves the waves but gets faces full of salt water a little too often. Yesterday morning he woke up and came into my room and told me, "I had so much fun at the beach yesterday. Can we go again today?"
The water was actually quite warm, and the little side pools felt as warm as bath water. Leah loved it!
After we got cleaned up from the beach we headed over to the Tanger Outlets and did some power shopping. I needed to exchange some shoes at the Addidas outlet, and Whtiney got some sweet deals at Ann Taylor. Then we got dinner at the "Steak and Shake." Kids eat free!! Woohoo!!
Here she is! Baby Leah loved Auntie Whitney! She loved all the extra attention, and the fact that Whitney popped her cereal puffs whenever she wanted.
Mmmmm, nothing better than a greasy burger and huge milkshake after a long day of playing in the sun!
 Happy First-Weekend-of-Summer from Myrtle Beach!
I love that this little piece of paradise is only 2 hours away from boring ol' Pinehurst.
Before Whitney left yesterday to head up to Richmond, she made a delicious cake with some peaches she picked up at a roadside stand on Saturday. I'd gotten Zach a piece which he left on the floor, and while I was doing dishes Leah got very, very quiet. When I found her she was stuffing two-fisted handfuls of cake into her mouth! She couldn't shovel it in fast enough before she got caught. She was very proud of herself! So, because of Whitney, and despite the Weather, we had a fantastic Weekend!

The Piano Man

Jonathan and I have wanted to buy a piano now for a couple of years. It's just one of those things that every home needs. Lucy's getting old enough now to want to start piano lessons, and the time just felt right, so I started looking on Craigslist for some good deals. Luckily with all the military in the area there were tons of listings, but obviously the biggest problem was once we'd found one, how would we get it home??
I contacted a guy with a listing in Raleigh that said he'd deliver this piano for free to Fayetteville, to see if he'd mind coming to Pinehurst instead, and when he agreed it was pretty much a done deal. He was a super nice guy who collects older pianos and fixes them up, and this one came from a seminary college up in Chapel Hill. Pretty cool history, right?
This sucker is built like a battleship, and kinda dinged up (a couple of the keys are chipped and stick) which is fine by me since it's only going to be played my wild children, but more importantly it has a great tone. We got the piano for a song (ha, ha)-- for $250, so if we have to end up selling it in 2 years, so be it. We're happy!
They were SO excited when the piano man came and delivered it. Zach loves to play "Haunted House" (pounding on the lowest keys) and Lucy and Leah love to listen to mommy and daddy play.
