Museum Mayhem!

My dear sister Whitney came down from Richmond last weekend to help celebrate my birthday. And while the weather out west soared into temperatures of 100+ degrees, here in North Carolina, it rained and rained and rained. And rained. I feared it was time to build us an ark! Some "summer" we've had so far! This is the lake that was once our driveway.
Here are my once beautiful flowers that have been beaten into submission by the pouring rain and are too waterlogged to continue living. With such dreary weather to contend with we didn't have many options to entertain Whitney with.
Enter the brand new children's museum in Rockingham! It's about 20 minutes south of us, so despite the downpour we were still able to make the best of it. Here's Lucy using a pulley to lift herself off the ground in the science section.
Zachary hanging out at the train table. He never gets bored pushing his little trains around. He had a BLAST playing at the museum with Whitney and cried when it was time to go.
Even baby Leah got in on some action in the "crawlers" section playing with her comrades in arms. She LOVES being around other little kids and starts flapping her wings like a little baby bird when she gets excited.
Chewing on everything! It's good for the immune system, right? This little stinker is already pulling herself up to standing and trying to balance her weight on both legs unassisted. She thinks she's like to start walking now, but I have other ideas!
We found the water table downstairs and Leah was in heaven splashing everyone. It was perfect that there was a chair to stick her in so she was at just the right height.
Lucy and Whitney had fun building a dam, and since we were still wet from the rain earlier I guess it didn't matter that Zachary doused us all with more water. We had great fun enjoying the new museum, and when 5:30 p.m. rolled around and it was STILL raining cats and dogs Lucy wasn't too disappointed her swim meet was cancelled again. Where is the summer sunshine hiding?!?

It's hiding over here. Except for one night when we had monsoon rains for about 10 minutes, it has been sunny, and HOT! I can't say that I'm complaining, because I love having the sun shine 365 days of the year. The children's museum looks like fun.

How fun to have a children's museum only 20 minutes away from you! It will be a great place for the kids to hang out and enjoy all of the fun things.
