This weekend we celebrated Halloween in more ways than one. Saturday afternoon we carved pumpkins.
Unfortunately we were only 1 for 2 since mine and Lucy's "Jasmine" pumpkin self-imploded (the inside was just mush) and ended up in the trash. Luckily though with Jon's great dentist hands he knocked his and Zach's "spider" jack o'lantern out.
That evening was our church's Fall Festival and Trunk Or Treat activity, so we got the kiddos all dolled up in their costumes. My own Halloween memories always feature such mayhem and excitement-- and last night was no different for my own little goblins. They were CRAZY excited about wearing their costumes and getting candy!!
Meet Alice! This year Lucy chose to be Alice in Wonderland, and since we're keeping the theme-tradition alive, Zachary was deemed the Mad Hatter.
You may be noticing that the quality and detail of their costumes is pretty impressive-- and has nothing to do with anything I did. Jon's mom saved the day once again and hand-sewed all of Lucy's costume and most of Zach's. They are AMAZING!! I think the standard has been set pretty high for next year!
They were a BIG hit at the ward party!! Lucy even had little girls coming up to her because they wanted "to talk to Alice." She loved that nobody recognized her at first because of her blonde wig.
The young men and young women had set up games in all of the classrooms for the kids, so while waiting for the Trunk or Treating the kids were kept busy. Jon came down with a horrible cold and almost didn't go, so he was being a good sport just by going. He also wore Zach's Mad Hatter hat when he got sick of it. Cheese!
This is the face that says "I've been promised candy. Where's the CANDY?!?" He was pretty patient waiting through all the games.
The Beehives were painting faces so Lucy chose a flower.
Zach first requested "Spiderman," but at the look of the little Beehive's face I decided he'd be just as happy with a pumpkin instead.
Finally! The pies de resistance! Trunk or Treating! Jon passed out candy (and made some little kids cry with our witch's hand candy bowl; it grabs your hand when you reach for candy) while I took the kids around the parking lot. Once we'd done the round Lucy and Zach decided they'd like to help pass out candy to the other kids.
Happy Halloween!!

The "pies de resistance"? Were they all out of rhubarb? What is that?!? If you are going to use French, at least use it appropriately. It is "piece de resistance". Amateur.
Sorry, this is Devin by the way. I just realized that I am signed in under Sarah's account. That would have been reeaaly strange coming from my wife. Nope, just your snarky bro.
Those costumes look amazing. They definitely don't look store-bought...they look so much better! How wonderful that the kids have such a talented Grandma!
Anyway, glad y'all had a good Halloween. I need to blog...
So cute! I love the costumes. Trunk-or-treats always make me miss Philly though, lots of funny memories from those. :) Looks like you had a fun Halloween!
